Water That Tree!
What's a holiday party or even the traditional Christmas morning scene itself without a beautifully decorated tree? If your household, as those of more than 33 million other American homes, includes a natural tree in its festivities, take to heart the sales person's suggestion—"Keep the tree watered." That's good advice and not just to create a fragrant indoor winter wonderland atmosphere. Christmas trees account for 200 fires annually, resulting in 6 deaths, 25 injuries and more than $6 million in property damage. Typically shorts in electrical lights or open flames from candles, lighters or matches start tree fires. Well-watered trees are not a problem. Dry and neglected trees can be.

Join Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and other agencies from around the county for Fire Prevention Week. This years activities will begin on Wednesday and Thursday from 9am until 2pm at the Home Depot. Friday is Family Day and will start at 9am and go until 5pm.

 On Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 02:45 p.m., ten (10) Douglas County Fire District No.2 Fire Fighters, with 4 Fire Engines, and 3 Command Units; under the direction of Fire Marshal Josep Pedrola; responded to a reported structure fire at 1988 Curry Road in Garden Valley.
First units arrived on scene 8 minutes after the initial dispatch and after reporting a detached outside structure  heavily involved on fire and also a natural cover fire that was threatening the nearby residence requested that a second alarm assignment by dispatched to the scene.
Fire fighters using hand lines aggressively attacked the fire to limit its spread and protect the threatened structure. The fire was declared under control in approximately 20 minutes. Fire crews remained on scene until approximately 5:00 p.m. 
Members of Douglas County Fire District No.2- Fire Investigation Unit identified the area of origin of the fire inside the storage building. The source of ignition has not been determined at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
No injuries to civilians or fire personnel were reported.
According to property owner Don Kruse there were only old tools, farm equipment and other miscellaneous items inside the storage building, and they had very little or no value.
Fire District No.2 fire fighters were assisted by Douglas Forest Protective Association.

 On Monday, September 21, 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m., four (4) Douglas County Fire District No.2 Fire Fighters, with one Fire Engine and one Command Unit and three (3) Sutherlin Fire Department Fire Fighters, with one Fire Engine; under the direction of Fire District No.2 Fire Chief Michel V. Hansen; traveled to Southern Oregon to assist fire crews battling two large wild fires.  The signing of a Conflagration Act at 12:52 p.m. yesterday by Governor Ted Kulongoski, which free up state resources to help fight the fire; and a request for automatic aid received from Jackson County Fire Authorities, prompted both of these Douglas County Fire Protection Agencies to commit some of their resources. The crews from both agencies have been incorporated into the Jackson County Task Force and will be deployed as needed to assist fire crews on any of these fires.

 Douglas County Fire District No. 2 was dispatched to an out of control burn at 2pm this afternoon. The first arriving Engine Company requested another Engine Company and Brush Rig respond to the scene at 502 Riverbend Road.
The fire was quickly contained to a small area and the cause is under investigation this evening. Units from DFPA also responded to the scene to assist.
